PROFESSIONAL SKETCHING

Symmetry Wanted -------> There's Always More To Something Than You Think, Only Sometimes, Theres ALOT MORE!

DEMONSTRATION ON SILK PAPER
FIRST I GOT SPECIAL DRAWING PAPER.  I THEN USED A MECHANICAL PENCIL TO TRACE ONE HALF OF THE MANNEQUINS BODY AND THE COSTUME. THEN I FOLDED THE PAPER AND TRACED THE IMAGE ONTO THE OTHER SIDE CREATING A DRESS BY USING SYMETRY.  THEN I OUTLINED ALL OF THE FOLDS AND WITH A THINNER PEN OUTLINED ALL OF THE SEAMS .  I MADE OPENINGS, LIKE POCKETS, DARKER AND THINNER MAKING THEM LOOK DEEPER AND GIVING THEM A 3D LOOK.

INTRODUCTION TO FASHION SKETCHES

FABRICS

HUGE SELECTIONS OF ONE TYPE OF FABRIC
In this step I wanted to know more about the actual professional sketching of clothes.  So I went to see a master tailor, who taught me all about different fabrics and different types of sketching.  I looked at fashion sketches and made a cut-drawing of one of my dresses

COMMENTS (evidence to support your ratings)
when I first planned my project I didn't know how complicated things could get and how unrealistic some of my proposals were.  Hence the quote on my page " You can't build a house in the air", which means that there are a lot of limits to what fabrics you can use, what cuts u can create, how you must create a cut and a lot more.  There were so many things I discovered and learnt as I moved through my project that I realized things aren't as easy as I thought they were.

DEADLINES:
How well are you at managing your time?                             1         2         3         4

COMMENTS:
I am catching up on the written work because I didn't realize there was another website with downloads.

INQUIRY PROCESS:
How efficient have you been in gathering information?         1         2         3         4
How would you rate the diversity of sources?                        1         2         3         4
How well are you using the information from your
Sources?  Are you engaging and extracting quality
information from your sources?                                             1         2         3         4

COMMENTS:

PROBLEM SOLVING/DECISION MAKING:
How well have you faced and solved any problems
with your project so far?                                                        1         2         3         4
Rate your initiative to consult a parent, peer or other
adult to help you with your project?                                       1         2         3         4

COMMENTS:
Im not quite done with figuring everything I need to know to complete my project out, but I am looking forward to learning more and getting my knowledge on this topic up to a 4
Dear Grade 9 students,

Now that you have completed your overall project plan, carefully describing what you intend your final project to look like, it is time to begin your work on step 4, 5 and 6 of the BIG 6 Research Process.  You have accessed your sources and now it is time to engage, in depth, with those sources.  Read and take notes, interview the expert and take notes, read, hear, view and touch the sources to extract information.  The more information you gather at this stage the better. Think back to your initial questions for investigation.  Have you located ALL of the information you need? If not, go out and get more.

It just might be that your gathering of information leads you in a different or new direction with your project.  Let your interest guide you at this point.  You CAN make adjustments to your project.  You will need to make a note and explain the reason for the change in your process journal.  This change will be noted on your display board at the presentation gala on March 10.

At this point in the project it would be good to assess yourself and how well you are managing the project.  Download the reflection survey, complete it to assess your project so far, and upload the document to the wiki as part of your process journal due January 14.

Remember you can email or come to see me at anytime for assistance with your project.  Please don’t wait until the end of January and then say to me that you didn’t know what to do.

Have fun discovering more about your interests and yourself.

Mrs. Kriss

The Big6TM Checklist
Information Literacy Skills

Name(s)___VICTORIA WEGENER________________
This checklist will guide you as you move through the Big6 Research Process. Answer all the questions completely before moving on to the next step. You may find that you need to go back to a previous step. You should be able to clearly explain your answers!

Step 1: Task Definition: define your information problem; identify information needed

What am I supposed to do? _____Plan/create/ produce a product/project on a topic that interests me and then write a reflective essay on it.  The main TO DO is to learn something new about a certain area which interests me and for which i would usually not have time for or wouldn't bother to approach._______________________________

What is my question/topic? _________Designing my own collection and discovering the process from simple sketches to the final product and catwalk. ______________________________________________________

Step 2: Information Seeking Strategies: determine all possible sources; select the best sources

What are the possible sources?
__Parents, Friends, People from the area, Contacts, Researching on the Internet, Magazines, Television, Movies, Music, Imagination, Teachers, fellow/older students ____________________________________________________________________

What are the best sources of information for this question/topic?
__Parents, Friends, Contacts, Fellow/ older students ____________________________________________________________________

Can I justify using these sources to my teacher and explain why I chose them?
__Yes, because I need support from people who are close to me and who are willing to support me because this isn't an easy project and it will take a lot of time so I will need a stable and trustworthy support system and I can best learn from people who are around me and can transfer their own wisdom and skills/ knowledge to me. Also, there is not much I can research on such subjects on the internet and I will need physical demonstrations.  My project is sort of a self-discovery project, where I have to go out and communicate with people and convince them to help me. :D ____________________________________________________________________

Step 3: Location and Access: locate sources; find information within sources

Where can I find these sources?
_____In my surroundings_______________________________________________________

I found a variety of sources, including:

Non-fiction books __HOW TO DRESS___________
DVDs or online video __Clueless, The Clique, The Roomate, tons of other movies, where the characters wear nice clothes________
Newspaper article (print or online) __no_______
Magazine article (print or online) __pictures and advertisements________
Reference article (print or online, from a library database) ___no___________
Website (meets CABU criteria) ___blogs, online shops, etc.___________

Step 4: Use of Information: engage with the source (read, hear, view, and touch); extract relevant information

Did I review my information question/topic to decide what kind of information I need from each source? __yes, but my sources were real/ alive people_____

Did I listen to/read/view each source and take notes, taking care to put information into my own words? ___I didn't have to research, because it was more about going to talk to people and investigate/experiment on my own.  It was a bit of a self discovery process._____________________

Did I find bibliographical information for each source and make a note of it? __I used no sources except for youtube videos and internet pictures from blogs.___________

Did I use NoodleTools to create a Works Cited page and list all my sources? ___not yet but I am going to._________

Step 5: Synthesis: organize from multiple sources; present the information

How will I organize my information? _I will show people this blog, I will show people my collages, photos, sketches, sketchbook, timeline, mindmaps, etc.
_______________________________________________________________________

How will I present my information? ______________I will use foam boards and bring my computer to school. __________________________________________________________

Did I create an outline that includes information from all of my sources? __I made a mindmap that summarizes the process of my project._________

Step 6: Evaluation: judge the product; judge the process

Did I answer my information question/topic? ____Yes, in a way I did achieve my goals, but I had planned too much for this project.  It was impossible to achieve everything.______________

Did others understand and enjoy my presentation? ___I haven't presented yet, the gala night is tomorrow :/_________________

Was I successful in completing the entire Big 6 process? Why or why not? ______Yes, I was because I could answer every single one of the questions as I completed my project step by step using the big six as a guide.  I fulfilled or am still working on fulfilling all its expectations. __________________________________________________________________

What could I have done differently? ____I could have sone some many things differently, that I don't even have time to list them all.  The main things, which I probably should have done differently is spend more time on the actual presentation than on the blog because even though I am ver proud of it other kids havent put that much effort into their wikis and mrs. kriss probably wont even read all of this and im not spending enough time on the things they will actually look at. ____________________________________________________________________

What did I learn?

______GO AND LOOK AT MY MINDMAP !

Personal Project Information, Ideas and Examples

The aims of the personal project are to:

z Demonstrate the personal abilities and skills required to produce and present an extended piece of work
z Engage in personal inquiry, action and reflection on specific topics and issues
z Communicate with others about topics, issues, views and opinions
z Reflect on learning and share knowledge, views and opinions.

The development of these characteristics is a part of your education at FIS.  The personal project is a terrific opportunity for you to ‘be’ these characteristics.

Product Ideas to Get You Started (not a complete list!)
·   Original piece of Art/music/drama/a screenplay
·   Original science experiment
·   Organizational plan for a business Invention
·   Create a sport or game
·   Research an idea (e.g. how colors affect our moods)

Your project should be:
z Personal, original, individual, something you have a genuine interest in

Your project should not be:
z Part of any assessed school course work; bound by any specific subject; destroying your social or academic life!

Your project must:
z Be well recorded (in words and pictures) in your Journal as you develop it, as the process of     doing/making your project is important, will be presented on project night and will be graded.
z Have a product.
z Conclude with a reflective essay (that will be assessed).

Some successful examples include...
z Designing a beach trolley/chair
z How 4th graders learn languages
z Fashion around the world
z How different types of music are used in advertising
z Composing a piece of music
z Writing and illustrating a children’ book

Some examples of unsuccessful projects include...
z Smoothie making
z Anything completed quickly and without effort or reflection

Dear Students,

Welcome to the Grade 9 Personal Project!  Your Personal Project can be a challenging, fun, life-changing experience if you actively participate in it. Everything you need to guide you in this journey can be found here on this site.  This guide is here because you will need it. Use it!

This guide is one key to success. Other important keys are:
v  BIG 6 research steps you have used here at FIS
v  Consistently using the Process Journal to keep track of your research and progress (Be sure to keep track of all your sources and reference them properly)
v  Talking with an adult mentor

Stick closely to the timeline! This is not a project you can do the night before the due date. Do yourself a favor and do not fall behind!

Did I mention to use this guide and record all your work in the Process Journal, I hope so, because it is important!

Lastly, have fun! (This is a requirement!) To maintain your motivation and interest through the work this project will entail, choose one that is special and meaningful to you and that you will enjoy! After all, this is YOUR Personal Project!

Best wishes on your quest!

FABRIC FOR DRESS # 2

This is a very flowing fabric that I will use for one of the dresses.  Although the dress was originally meant to be red, I fell in love with this fabric at first dight.  It is flowy and therefore ideal for the type of dress I had in mind.
