The Big6TM Checklist
Information Literacy Skills
Name(s)___VICTORIA WEGENER________________
This checklist will guide you as you move through the Big6 Research Process. Answer all the questions completely before moving on to the next step. You may find that you need to go back to a previous step. You should be able to clearly explain your answers!
Step 1: Task Definition: define your information problem; identify information needed
What am I supposed to do? _____Plan/create/ produce a product/project on a topic that interests me and then write a reflective essay on it. The main TO DO is to learn something new about a certain area which interests me and for which i would usually not have time for or wouldn't bother to approach._______________________________
What is my question/topic? _________Designing my own collection and discovering the process from simple sketches to the final product and catwalk. ______________________________________________________
Step 2: Information Seeking Strategies: determine all possible sources; select the best sources
What are the possible sources?
__Parents, Friends, People from the area, Contacts, Researching on the Internet, Magazines, Television, Movies, Music, Imagination, Teachers, fellow/older students ____________________________________________________________________
What are the best sources of information for this question/topic?
__Parents, Friends, Contacts, Fellow/ older students ____________________________________________________________________
Can I justify using these sources to my teacher and explain why I chose them?
__Yes, because I need support from people who are close to me and who are willing to support me because this isn't an easy project and it will take a lot of time so I will need a stable and trustworthy support system and I can best learn from people who are around me and can transfer their own wisdom and skills/ knowledge to me. Also, there is not much I can research on such subjects on the internet and I will need physical demonstrations. My project is sort of a self-discovery project, where I have to go out and communicate with people and convince them to help me. :D ____________________________________________________________________
Step 3: Location and Access: locate sources; find information within sources
Where can I find these sources?
_____In my surroundings_______________________________________________________
I found a variety of sources, including:
Non-fiction books __HOW TO DRESS___________
DVDs or online video __Clueless, The Clique, The Roomate, tons of other movies, where the characters wear nice clothes________
Newspaper article (print or online) __no_______
Magazine article (print or online) __pictures and advertisements________
Reference article (print or online, from a library database) ___no___________
Website (meets CABU criteria) ___blogs, online shops, etc.___________
Step 4: Use of Information: engage with the source (read, hear, view, and touch); extract relevant information
Did I review my information question/topic to decide what kind of information I need from each source? __yes, but my sources were real/ alive people_____
Did I listen to/read/view each source and take notes, taking care to put information into my own words? ___I didn't have to research, because it was more about going to talk to people and investigate/experiment on my own. It was a bit of a self discovery process._____________________
Did I find bibliographical information for each source and make a note of it? __I used no sources except for youtube videos and internet pictures from blogs.___________
Did I use NoodleTools to create a Works Cited page and list all my sources? ___not yet but I am going to._________
Step 5: Synthesis: organize from multiple sources; present the information
How will I organize my information? _I will show people this blog, I will show people my collages, photos, sketches, sketchbook, timeline, mindmaps, etc.
_______________________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________________
How will I present my information? ______________I will use foam boards and bring my computer to school. __________________________________________________________
Did I create an outline that includes information from all of my sources? __I made a mindmap that summarizes the process of my project._________
Step 6: Evaluation: judge the product; judge the process
Did I answer my information question/topic? ____Yes, in a way I did achieve my goals, but I had planned too much for this project. It was impossible to achieve everything.______________
Did others understand and enjoy my presentation? ___I haven't presented yet, the gala night is tomorrow :/_________________
Was I successful in completing the entire Big 6 process? Why or why not? ______Yes, I was because I could answer every single one of the questions as I completed my project step by step using the big six as a guide. I fulfilled or am still working on fulfilling all its expectations. __________________________________________________________________
What could I have done differently? ____I could have sone some many things differently, that I don't even have time to list them all. The main things, which I probably should have done differently is spend more time on the actual presentation than on the blog because even though I am ver proud of it other kids havent put that much effort into their wikis and mrs. kriss probably wont even read all of this and im not spending enough time on the things they will actually look at. ____________________________________________________________________
What did I learn?
______GO AND LOOK AT MY MINDMAP !
